This Year's Kitchens

Deb Allen photographed every aspect of her 2006 remodeling project. She enjoys open, light areas and appreciates modern conveniences with "ease of cleaning because this home must withstand the rigor of two pet Boxers!"
Jo Blair says that her new home is a tribute to the creative and skillful team who designed and built it. Contemporary, Craftsman, and northwest elements fit the site and her casual lifestyle. The kitchen-great room has a 180-degree view of Discovery Bay, Protection Island, and the Olympic Mountains.
The kitchen in Judy Dahl's new home is an integral part of the home's peaceful and contemporary elegance. Blue crystals sparkle in the Labrador Antique granite countertop. Lighting in the cove ceiling is especially creative. A large Civil War musket case is incorporated into the contemporary design.
Chairs that Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt used during Hyde Park meetings reside in the Nesbitt Arts and Crafts dining room. Bob made floors, banisters, and furniture from old-growth fir from a whaling warehouse and cedar felled on this property. Arlene's expert decorative painting creates an indoor garden.
Lynn Pierle's certified BuiltGreenTM home features a kitchen inspired by grandmother Ora Mae Berry's 1840's Mississippi farmhouse. The bead-board cabinets, farm sink, and butcher block island remind Lynn of her grandmother's Southern fried chicken, bean and ham hocks, and lemon meringue pie.

Carolyn Ramey's kitchen has a front-row-seat view of Protection Island. The copper-flecked granite atop the island and counters inspired Carolyn to create a backsplash of pressed copper sheeting that she aged with an acid wash. Carolyn's mother's Johnson Brothers china graces an antique hutch.
Balance and symmetrical proportions of French Provincial style fit the wooded country environment of Pamela Rogge's home. Kitchen floor tiles provide an Old World feeling. A stained glass window between the kitchen and formal dining room opens for serving.
Up to 4 cooks work at one time in Lynne Stanko's kitchen preparing holiday meals. Pots and pans hang above the island on an Enclume pot rack. The computer-equipped kitchen desk is very practical. The Mayan Maize powder room features acquisitions from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
