voter education & outreach
Equal Pay Day this year is on March 4, 2026. This day means that the average women must work 365 days plus another 83 days to earn as much as the average man earns in 365 days. In the past 25 years, the pay gap has only improved by about 8%.
Check out AAUW’s annual study The Simple Truth About the Gender Pay Gap.
The Paycheck Fairness Act is just one of the many priorities of AAUW’s focus. See the full list of AAUW’s 2025 - 2027 Public Policy and Priorities.

lobby day
Lobby Day 2026 is Wednesday, January 21. Mark your calendar to get involved. More details to come.
Washington State Bills that AAUW WA Supports:
Check back closer to Lobby Day (January 21, 2026) for a list of bills.
Sign up for the Two Minute Activist. Get top of the moment information on congressional bills affecting women so you can take specific action and help move this advocacy forward.
Actions you can take:
Educate yourself : The Washington State Legislature maintains a powerful and user friendly website. Here you can find your state representatives and senators and learn how to contact them. You can look up information on bills currently being considered when the legislature is in session. You can post comments and your pro or con opinion on bills being discussed in committee hearings and voted on by the legislature. https://leg.wa.gov
Ask to meet with law makers (in-person or virtually) to advocate for issues you care about as an AAUW member. Take any meeting time they offer. Speaking just with their Aides is just fine.
If you can’t set up a meeting, you can email law makers with a list of bills AAUW is supporting and key talking points.
Follow-up periodically, for example, thank them for voting for a bill if they did, or for sponsoring a new bill on AAUW’s list or that you like.
